Fishing
Enid Lake!
Enid
Lake became my favorite place to fish some twenty
six years ago. After a few trips I realized that no
place on earth could offer more consistent large
catches of both black and white Crappie than this
28,000 acre delta flood control lake in Yalobusha
county Mississippi. After all, the world record
crappie was produced by this scenic body of water.
The fish weighed in at 5 pounds, 3 ounces and was
caught by Fred Bright of Memphis, Tennessee on July
31, 1957. Each time I sink a jig in the water of
Enid I anticipate the next jerk to be a new
record. Would you permit me to share this
excitement with you?
Enid is just one of the Mississippi lakes managed
by professional biologists on staff with Delta
Wildlife Foundation and the Mississippi Department
of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
July is here and we are reminded that we live in a
free country as July 4th comes and goes. Correct
history will reveal that our nation was born
because a group of people who believed in and
trusted God put their heads together after much
prayer and drafted the documents that, after the
battle, gave us the freedom that we so much
enjoy.
As you celebrate our independence you will remember
that freedom is not free! It has cost the lives of
countless thousands of our fellow citizens to get
and maintain it. Remembering what it cost will make
freedom more precious to you. It should yet be,
"Give me liberty or give me death" to all who live
in this great country.
