First Business Card Collector Convention Big Hit

Editor's Note
The information and photographs from the convention were supplied by Darrell Christopher, founder of the ABCC. The quality of the images is poor because they were copied and recopied from small color snapshots.

In July of 1986 the first business card collectors convention was held in Warren, Michigan. Darrell Christopher, founder of the ABCC, was host to a small but enthusiastic group of collectors.

Darrell wrote that Pearl Schultz won the overall best of show with her antique and unique display. He thanked Dee Scheyer, Robert Sheppard, Paul Bertrand, Warren Platt, Robert Savore and Larry Flink for sending cards for attendees.

Drene Brennan of London, England, sent a display “Hats Off to the ABCC Convention.” Jack Gurner provided a special convention issue of the Business Card Journal. Signs and certificates were provided by Alicia Sczenk.

Charles Wolf brought a display of his postcards and match covers as well as four large boxes of dupes. Charles won 2nd place for his display, according to Darrell.

Best exhibit award went to Carl Bade for his map of Michigan showing all the towns and cities from which he has cards. Carl’s mom, Barbara, was at the awards banquet to show support.

Ed Nafziger of Archbold, Ohio, won first place for overall collection with his 40 books of cards. He estimates his collection at about 27,000.

Michael Dierolf won a first place for his display of 30 governors plus letters from each. According to Darrell, Mike’s parents were at the awards banquet for support.

Convention attendees included (from left) Ed Nafziger, Charles Wolf, Darrell Christopher, Carl Bade, Bob Dillard and Michael Dierolf.
