The Water Valley Hobo Band made their debut at the campfire Saturday
night during the
Casey Jones Railroad Museum Hobo Gathering. The band members are Jarah
Spence, 7,
and Jacob Spence, 9, children of Kim and Scott Spence. They performed
the original song,
“Let’s Go Fishing”. The tune was composed with the help of Lady
Nightingale of
Serenity, the National Hobo Gospel Singers.
The traditional fire lighting ceremony was held Friday night during the
Water Valley Hobo
Gathering. Saluting the west wind are (from left) Baloney Kid, National
Hobo Queen
Charlotte, Spike, and National Hobo King Iwegan. The ceremony was
conducted by
former Hobo King Redbird Express.

Among the Hobo performers at the Water Valley Hobo Gathering were
Serenity, the
National Hobo Gospel Singers. The members are Lady Nightingale, Lady
Son-shine and
Blue Moon Bo, all from Maine.
One of the highlights of Water Valley Hobo Gathering Kids’ Day was
“train rides” by the
Baloney Kid who provided the steam power and whistle. The only thing missing was smoke coming out of his stack.

Day activities on Saturday.
Preston Nino, six-week-old son of Missy and Ricardo Nino, was the grand
prize winner in
the Hobo dress-up during Kid’s
Day Saturday. Holding
Preston is a very nervous Baloney Kid.

Iwegan for
National Public Radio.
